U.S. Court of Appeals - 18788-1-DVD - Age Discrimination: Becker v. Unisys - Television cameras recorded the proceedings of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania as it heard jury instructions, introductory arguments and testimony in the case Edmonda Becker v. Unisys Corporation, in which a former employee of Unisys brought suit against the company for age discrimination. Ms. Becker claimed the company laid her off when she did not take part in an early retirement program; Unisys claimed she was laid off as a result of a business reorganization due to declining profits. The case took place on the first day television cameras were allowed in Federal courts, the beginning of a three year experiment of the effect of television coverage on court proceedings. Television cameras are being allowed in Federal courts on civil cases only, not in criminal cases. Filmed by C-SPAN. Non-commercial use only.
