Daredevils On Ice (1945) - 16mm - Silent with Sound - HD.webm

A friend handed me a bag with films in it and said "If you want to scan these, I'd like to know what is on them". Being curious as well, I started doing just that. This is a Castle Films "Sports" film showing various Ice and Snow sports. This film was sold two ways, as a silent film and a sound film (in 16mm only). In 1945 there were still older 16mm projectors that didn't have sound and had sproket holes on both sides of the film. So sound films would be damaged if run through them. Producing both gave Castle a bigger market. I found another version of this film with sound and edited in the soundtrack. It had to be re-timed a bit because the other film was running fast (we're locked at 24FPS with our scanning method). I think it's fun and you get to see the Intertitles from the silent version as well. Enjoy.
