Don Juan (1926) - 16mm - Flat - Sound.webm

This is like nothing that I've ever tried to upload before. A full length feature. And not just any, but the film that introduced sound movies to the world. Wait, you might be saying, that was The Jazz Singer. There are actually a bunch of other sound films before either of those two but what's significant about Don Juan is that it was the first feature film with a dedicated soundtrack. The invention was called "The Vitaphone" and it was a Warner Brothers exclusive. The soundtrack was recorded on 16" phonograph records that ran 10 minutes each to line up with the 1000' 10 minute film reels. The purpose was to bring big city music orchestrations to the small towns of the world. Talking pictures came later but this is the core of the beginning. The print you are watching is from the "Golden Jubilee" printing that was done in 1976. It represented an early film restoration effort and was put on tour around the country. It has a lot of very famous stars of the era including John Barrymore, Warner Oland, Hedda Hopper, Myrna Loy, Mary Astor, and a pre-Miss Crabtree June Marlow. This one needs to be seen by everyone who loves film. Please make some comments and like and subscribe. And hey,
