On April 17, 2025, late in the afternoon in the Palestinian village of Ar Rakeez, an Israeli settler grazed his flock on Palestinian land. Shortly afterwards, nearby in Ar Rakeez, a shooting took place in which a Palestinian man was shot in the leg on his own land by an Israeli settler, reportedly just after his son had been physically attacked by another settler. After the shooting, two dozen Israeli soldiers and settlers, many of whom were armed, arrived at the scene, as did several Palestinian residents. Soldiers kept Palestinians at a distance, while settlers were left free to roam around. The man was evacuated by ambulance but lost his leg. After the man was evacuated, taking advantage of the confusion, a settler began working on Palestinian land with a drilling instrument, but soldiers stopped him and forced him to leave.
