Main Street in Cold Spring, Buffalo, New York during December 2022 blizzard - 20221224 - 01.webm
Open licenseHigh winds and blowing snow punctuate an eerie quiet over Buffalo, New York's normally bustling Main Street, as seen in the Cold Spring neighborhood at about 11:30 on Christmas Eve morning, the second day of a three-day blizzard that, according to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, proved "the worst storm in [the] community's history, surpassing the Blizzard of '77". Over four feet of snow fell at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport , with wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour generating whiteout conditions that grounded emergency vehicles and trapped in their cars those making ill-advised commutes.
