Open license

Snow blankets the street, sidewalks and cars as an eerie hush falls over Laurel Street in Buffalo, New York, as seen at about 11:30 on Christmas Eve morning, the second day of a three-day blizzard that, according to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, proved "the worst storm in [the] community's history, surpassing the Blizzard of '77". Over four feet of snow fell at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport , with wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour generating whiteout conditions that grounded emergency vehicles and trapped in their cars those making ill-advised commutes.
