The payloads for the STS-121 mission are loaded into a payload canister and delivered to the payload changeout room at Launch Pad 39B, where they will be installed inside the payload bay of Space Shuttle Discovery. The canister holds the the multi-purpose logistics module Leonardo, with supplies and equipment for the International Space Station; the lightweight multi-purpose experiment support structure carrier; and the integrated cargo carrier, with the mobile transporter reel assembly and a spare pump module. Liftoff is targeted for July 1 in a launch window that extends to July 19. During the 12-day mission, Discovery's crew will test new hardware and techniques to improve shuttle safety, as well as deliver supplies and make repairs to the station.
