Northrop Grumman VP Applauds Next-Generation SLS Solid Rocket Booster

Four-time shuttle astronaut and Northrop Grumman Vice President of Propulsion Systems, Charlie Precourt, shares his excitement over the newly improved and more powerful twin five-segment solid rocket boosters that produce more than 75 percent of the Space Launch System rocket’s thrust in a little over two minutes of flight. NASA completed a full-duration, full-scale hot fire test of a flight support booster for later flights of NASA’s Space Launch System rocket at Northrop Grumman’s facilities in Promontory, Utah, on Sept. 2. NASA and Northrop Grumman, the SLS booster lead contractor, will use data from the test to evaluate the motor’s performance using potential new materials and processes for future booster performance.
