Glass, Bottle of Bass, Newspaper
IN COPYRIGHT
Glass, Bottle of Bass, Newspaper combines collage-like elements within a lightly drawn surface. Goblets, bottles, and newspapers were standard components of Picasso’s Cubist vocabulary. The artist conveys the transparency of glass by depicting it both in profile and from above, and dotting it in yellow and red to simultaneously suggest opacity and transparency. The letters JOU refer both to the Paris daily newspaper Le Journal and to the French word for “play”: jouer.
